Compost starters are available to buy from specialist retailers. But you can also easily make it yourself with a few home remedies. All you need is yeast, sugar and water. This is how you make your own compost starter.
How do you make a compost starter with yeast, sugar and water?
To make your own compost starter with yeast, sugar and water, you need fresh yeast, approx.1 kg sugar and lukewarm water. Dissolve the yeast and sugar in the water, put it in a watering can, fill with water and let it steep for 2 hours. Then spread the starter on the compost at approx. 20 degrees Celsius.

- Fresh yeast (cubes)
- approx. 1 kg sugar
- Water (lukewarm)
- 10 liter watering can
Dissolve the yeast and sugar in the water. Pour the mixture into a watering can and fill it with water. Allow the organic compost starter to steep for two hours.
Then pour the yeast-sugar-water mixture over the compost heap.
The weather should be mild. Temperatures around 20 degrees offer the best conditions for using the compost starter.
Tip
