If you have received several offshoots of a Monstera, you may be wondering whether they can be planted together in one pot. In this article we look at the advantages and disadvantages.
Can you plant several Monsteras in one pot?
Several Monsteras can be planted together in a larger pot, but it is advisable to place each plant in a separate pot in order to better accommodate individual growth and to avoid greater effort when repotting later.
Can several Monsteras be planted in one pot?
Basicallyit doesn't hurt if several Monsteras share a pot. The plants have the same requirements in terms of location, temperature and care.
How big should the pot be for several Monsteras?
The pot should besignificantly larger than for a single Monstera, so that the roots of the plants have enough space to grow. The plants should have just as much space in the potted shared apartment as if they were growing alone in a pot. With three Monsteras, this means a pot volume that is three times larger. However, the plants should not be placed directly in a pot that is too large, otherwise the roots will not develop properly.
What do you need to consider when planting the Monstera?
When planting, please note that the Monstera will grow and the potcan quickly become too crowded for several plants. The plants are then difficult to separate from each other because the roots form a tightly woven network. Repotting all plants later involves a lot of effort and stress for the plants. The weight that large Monsteras can achieve also plays a major role. If there are several plants in one pot, it will soon become so heavy that it can no longer be moved.
Tip
One pot per plant is recommended
While several Monsteras per pot may seem like a good idea at the beginning, that can quickly change. That's why we recommend planting each Monstera in its own pot. This way you remain flexible and can respond better to the individual growth of the plants. If your Monstera is not growing as bushy as you would like, you can improve its growth by moving it to a brighter location. It can also help visually to place two Monsteras close together in separate pots.
