When creating a new bed, you can avoid digging if you want to proceed organically.
This saves a lot of work and creates ideal conditions for the new plants that are planted or sown there right from the start. An area such as an old lawn where the grass has grown quite long is well suited. Under no circumstances should you mow it beforehand.
The principle behind this method is to cover the previous plant growth and thus cut off the air supply and sunlight.

Use mulching material or cardboard

The intended area is cut and filled with the mulching material. If you use cardboard, place it so that there are no gaps. You can also stack several pieces of cardboard on top of each other.
Because the plants growing on the new bed are long enough, they bend over and are then unable to pierce the mulching material or cardboard.
Turn carefully after a few months
After a few months, the mulching material collapsed well. Now turn it over with the pitchfork and add some more mulch or add ripe compost on top.
You can then plant the new bed.
Once you have covered the new bed with cardboard, pour a thick layer of topsoil on top. Then you can immediately start replanting the bed.
Tip
In the organic garden, tools such as spades, tillers and shovels play a less important role. There, the sow tooth is used to loosen the soil. This only has one tine that is pulled through the earth.
