Birches are not poisonous to humans, but contain healing ingredients in their leaves, bark and buds. They can be consumed as tea or pure, for example. Birch is generally harmless to animals, but caution should be exercised when it comes to budgies.
Birch poisonous to humans?
Birches are one of those special types of trees that are even edible - some parts, of course. The leaf of the birch tree, for example, can be helpful when made into tea. Due to the flavonoids, essential oils and vitamins they contain, eating birch leaves can contribute to a he althy diet and combat various symptoms of illness.
The same applies to birch buds: You can also easily eat them straight or brew them into a tea with a slightly woody aroma. Birch sap and birch sugar are also well-known edible birch products that are beneficial for the body. In this respect, the tree does not contain any substances that are toxic to humans.
Animals and birches
Since birch extracts have a strong dehydrating effect, caution is advised for some animals. Although there is no question of a toxic effect here, some pets do not feel well after nibbling on birch leaves or bark. These particularly include budgies. In principle, there is nothing to be said against eating birds or horses in moderation.
