A garden pond undoubtedly brings with it a lot of atmospheric atmosphere. Unfortunately, of course there are also costs. Depending on your own contribution, these can also be kept within limits. In the following we would like to provide an introductory overview.
What costs should be expected when building a pond?
The costs for building a pond vary depending on the material, size and technical equipment. For a small prefabricated pool from 30 €, liner pond from 50 €, take into account possible excavation of the trough (120 € for mini excavator rental), fountain pump from 50 € and filter pump from 160 €.
The cost-causing factors when building a pond
Of course, you can create most of your pond yourself. This not only gives you the advantage of free shape and size design, but also some cost savings. If you want to save time and effort rather than money, you can have everything built completely by professionals. In general, the following cost areas must be included:
- Material for the pool (liner or prefabricated pool)
- If necessary, costs for digging the trough
- Possibly technical equipment
Basin material
The cost of the pool depends on whether you choose a prefabricated pool or the free design with foil. You can get a small prefabricated pool with a capacity of around 50 liters for around 30 euros, the basic equipment for a liner pond - i.e. pond liner and protective fleece - costs around 50 to 120 euros, depending on the size of the pond.
Digging the trough
An important cost question arises when digging the pond trough. You can save a lot by doing your own work - although it is of course not always possible or advisable to do the shovel yourself. Depending on the planned pond size and soil conditions, you can easily overestimate yourself here.
If you want to make your pond larger than 5 m² in terms of surface area, you should have it built rather than develop excessive ambition. At least help with a motorized device is recommended - and you can save money here too. Renting a mini excavator for a day and driving it yourself is possible for around 120 euros. Having this work done by a trained landscaper can take several hours of work at 50 to 60 euros each.
Technical equipment
If you only want to install water features or decorative lighting in your pond, you don't need to calculate much. A fountain pump is available for around 50 euros. To save on operating costs, it is worth investing in a solar panel system as a power source.
A filter pump system for larger ponds with a water volume of around 5000 liters is more expensive. For this you have to calculate around 160 to 350 euros.
