The favorite tuber can't come from your own garden soon enough. If you choose early potatoes when sowing, you can harvest and enjoy them as early as June. Some of the best-known and most popular early varieties are briefly described below.
What types of new potatoes are there?
Common early potato varieties include Agata, Annabelle, Augusta, Belana, Berber, Friesländer, Glorietta, Hela, Lilly, Marabel, Rosara and Sieglinde. These varieties offer different flavor profiles and cooking qualities, such as waxy or floury, and achieve high yields in the home garden.
Agata
This early variety is predominantly waxy. Although it produces a high yield, it is only suitable for immediate consumption after harvest.
Annabelle
Annabelle provides waxy tubers that are ideal for the ever-popular potato salad. Even on heavy soil, the yield satisfies all wishes. But this requires proper fertilization.
Augusta
Delicious, floury type of potato for puree or dumplings. Cultivation should take place on good soil, then the yield will be high. The tubers can be stored.
Belana
Belana has a high yield, can be stored and is considered the all-rounder in the home kitchen. The waxy, yellow tubers have a delicate but intense taste.
Berber
Berber is a waxy new potato variety with yellow flesh. Their tubers are the first of the year. They taste best freshly harvested and are versatile when cooking.
Frieslander
A robust, predominantly waxy variety that tastes good and at the same time offers a high yield. The large, yellow-fleshed tubers are ideal for preparing French fries and bearded potatoes.
Glorietta
With a good supply of water and nutrients, this early variety develops uniformly shaped tubers. It is ideally pre-germinated before planting. The taste of this waxy potato is excellent, the flesh is deep yellow.
Hela
Potato tubers of this variety are pale yellow and have a strong taste. Their floury consistency makes them an ideal ingredient for fried and grilled potatoes.
Lilliy
Lilly's floury tubers do not fall apart when cooked. After harvesting, they can be stored well until they are used. This is also important because the yield can be pleasingly high.
Marabel
Marabel forms plenty of tubers. These have a slightly sweet taste and can be used in many different ways in the kitchen. The flesh is yellow and predominantly waxy.
Rosara
The tubers of this predominantly waxy early variety are red on the outside and yellow on the outside. It is not very susceptible to disease. The consistency is creamy and tasty.
Sieglinde
It is one of the best-known potato varieties in this country and is also the longest-approved potato variety in Germany. The yellow and waxy tubers are covered in a fine peel.
