It is green, round and sometimes more or less noticeable - the classic rain barrel. It also proves to be very useful when water flows from the roof tiles. But who always wants to go with the flow? A square rain barrel is something different. In addition, there is a double benefit. Read here how you can make the model yourself and what advantages arise.
How do I build a square rain barrel myself?
To build a square rain barrel yourself, you need a sturdy, waterproof plastic container without cracks or chemical residues. This can be visually enhanced by attaching cut wooden strips using double-sided adhesive tape and choosing a suitable house wall as the location.
Advantages of a square rain barrel
In contrast to the round model, a square rain barrel can be placed directly on the wall of the house. This means that no bending rain pipe is required to direct the water into the container. Wood paneling, which increases the look many times over, is also much easier to install.
Construction instructions
Basically, as with conventional models, you need a container that has no cracks and has a large enough volume to store large amounts of water. Unfortunately, romantic wine barrels are not an option for the square version. If you use a conventional plastic container, the only option is to cover it yourself. Your blank must have the following requirements:
- Free from cracks or leaks
- Free from chemical residues or oil (rinse thoroughly beforehand)
- Sufficient volume
- Stable and stable
Improve the appearance of the square rain barrel
As already mentioned above, the visual enhancement of a square rain barrel is particularly easy.
- Apply double-sided tape on the top and bottom.
- Attach cut wooden strips to this.
- Drilling is not recommended as leaks could occur.
- Make a pedestal.
- Place the rain barrel on a wall of the house.
Note: Since a rain barrel can weigh several tons even with a small amount of water, you should choose the location before assembly. This is particularly recommended for square models, as they cannot be rolled like conventional barrels.
