You are certainly familiar with the intense scent of lavender. It is said to have a calming effect and even help you fall asleep. You can also get restful sleep if you are not disturbed by annoying flies. Luckily, the insects avoid areas where the lavender scent spreads. Thanks to its height of 150 cm, the plant exudes its aroma over a large area.
Location
Lavender comes from the warm countries of the Mediterranean and therefore prefers sunny locations. It also feels most comfortable in a location protected from the wind. The southern orientation on the lee side of a wall is therefore ideal for cultivating the plant. Whether you place the plant directly in the bed or in a pot is up to you.
Lavender against flies in the house
Lavender is difficult to cultivate as a houseplant. Nevertheless, you can also use its ingredients indoors.
- Pick off a few flowers.
- Let these dry in a warm place.
- Fill a sock or small bag with the dried flowers.
- Hang these in a dry place.
You can also get lavender oil in he alth food stores or drugstores, which has the same effect.
- Spread the oil around the room using a spray bottle.
- Put the oil in an aroma lamp.
- Drip a little oil onto curtains or other objects (be careful of stains!)

As already mentioned above, lavender is ideal for growing in containers. In this form, the plant can fit on the windowsill in a narrow flower pot or in a balcony box. This location is particularly effective because it allows you to open the window for a longer period of time in the summer. The scent of the plant deters flies from entering the house. In addition, this insect protection looks much nicer than a fly screen in front of the window pane.
