Which devices are suitable for grinding nuts?

Nut mills, lightning choppers, moulinettes, food processors and hand blenders are suitable for grinding nuts. Depending on the device, the amount of effort and the fineness of the end product varies. Try different variations to achieve the desired result.

These devices are suitable:

  • Nut mills: produce a fine flour in several steps
  • Lightning hackers: are more suitable for chopping
  • Moulinette: enables different degrees of grinding through different inserts
  • Food processors: are primarily intended for coarse nut powder
  • Hand blender: process nuts into pieces

Nut mills

Such devices can be operated by hand or with electricity, although the manual versions require a lot of effort. The shredding is done by turning a hand crank. There are different discs or drums that you can use to adjust the grinding level. Grinding is easier if you first use a coarse disc and work in several steps. This procedure is also recommended for electrical versions, which are suitable for larger quantities of nuts.

Lightning Hacker

Such specimens consist of a container with rotating cutting blades inside. These are connected to an attachment that contains the mechanical components. The movement of the blades is caused by cranking or rotating. Some models have push or pull devices.

The advantage of such kitchen helpers is that they can process nuts quickly. However, the mechanics require different amounts of effort. If you want to chop nuts, products with pressing devices are not recommended. They require the greatest muscle strength. There are now numerous electricity-powered models on the market.

Moulinette

This device is the electrically operated counterpart to the lightning hacker and comes from the French company Moulinex. Translated, the term means something like “small mill”. The first universal shredder was brought onto the market in 1960. To this day, the manufacturer produces robust and non-slip kitchen appliances with sturdy housings.

A removable plastic container is equipped with a cutting mechanism. Even larger quantities of nuts can be easily processed with the Moulinette. For use in the kitchen, devices with an output of at least 500 watts (€55.00 on Amazon) are sufficient.

Kitchen machines

There are now a lot of combination machines that you can convert into a nut mill in just a few simple steps. To process nuts, they need powerful motors and grinders equipped with stainless steel blades or drums. It is not only the quick processing of large quantities of nuts that proves to be advantageous, but also the easy cleaning of the individual parts in the dishwasher.

Hand blender

Powerful hand mixers manage to chop the nuts with a little patience. Since the blades can easily get stuck in the mixture and the device heats up quickly, you should process the material in smaller portions. Also make sure you take enough breaks when grinding to cool down.

Tip

Basically you can use old coffee grinders for grinding. However, many nuts are harder than coffee beans, which makes the work more difficult.
