Grape juice is not only suitable for winemaking. It is also a real pleasure on its own. To get the sweet fruit juice, a good press is necessary. There are different models that have their own advantages.
Which devices are suitable for pressing grapes?
Basket press, screw press, steam juicer and juicer are suitable for pressing grapes. Basket press enables high yield, screw press is easy to clean, steam juicer gets longer lasting juice and juicer delivers a fruit juice with high vitamins and antioxidants.
Pressing equipment:
- Basket press: for pure juice from large quantities
- Screw press: easy to clean model
- Steam juicer: produces longer lasting juices
- Juicer: delivers fruit juice with a high content of vitamins and antioxidants
Basket press
It is the classic among must presses because it can be operated by hand and ensures gentle juice production. The pre-sorted grapes are filled into the basket. The fruit is crushed using hydraulic pressure or manual force so that the juice comes out. A press cloth catches leftover meat, cores and stalks. The big advantage of basket presses is the high yield.
Screw press
The berry press is mechanically driven. By moving the spindle, the pressure plate lowers through the stainless steel basket to the ground and compresses the fruit material. The grape juice runs through the holes in the basket and collects in an outer bowl. The advantage is that you don't need any pressing cloths and the device is easy to clean. However, small seeds and pieces of fruit can more easily get into the grape juice through the openings.
Steam Juicer
These universal juicers are based on heat and are suitable for large quantities of grapes. Fruit stems can release bitter substances that affect the flavor of the juice. Place the stemmed fruit in the basket provided and fill the lower container with water. The middle part serves as a collecting container for the fruit juice.
Cooking causes steam to rise, which causes the cell walls of the grapes to burst and the juice to escape. Due to the heat, juice from the steam juicer lasts a little longer than cold-pressed juice. However, valuable vitamins are lost with this method.
Juicer
The so-called slow juicer is an electric food processor that is used for cold juicing. They contain horizontally or vertically mounted press screws that move at low speed and thus expel the juice. The big plus of these models is that less oxygen reaches the fruit juice during pressing and the risk of oxidation is lower.
