Unfortunately, unwashed grapes contain many pesticides and germs that can be harmful to he alth. That's why it's important to wash the delicious fruits very thoroughly and remove any substances that could have a negative impact on your he alth.
How to wash grapes properly?
To wash grapes thoroughly, remove unsightly or moldy fruit, rinse under running water, grate each grape, soak briefly in cold water, and dry gently. Alternatively, you can soak grapes in vinegar water and rinse thoroughly.
Wash grapes just before eating
A white, waxy coating, the so-called scent film, protects grapes from drying out. It is an indicator of the freshness of the fruit and should definitely be present when purchasing. Don't wash it straight away at home either, as this will keep the fruit fresher for longer.
Wash grapes thoroughly
Shortly before consumption, you should carefully clean the table grapes:
- Pluck unsightly or moldy fruits.

- Rub each grape clean with your fingers.
- Drain on a tea towel for a few minutes and then carefully pat dry.
Soak grapes briefly
- Place the grapes in a bowl and fill it with cold water. The fruits should be completely covered.
- Leave the grapes in there for five minutes.
- Remove and rinse carefully again under running water.
- Place on a clean kitchen towel, allow to drain briefly and then carefully dry each grape. This means that the dissolved pollutants and germs stick to the kitchen towel.
This procedure thoroughly removes pesticides and germs. This method is particularly recommended if children eat the grapes.

If you want to be absolutely sure that all bacteria and pesticides are washed from the fruits, you can clean them in vinegar water:
- Put room temperature water in a bowl and add a dash of vinegar.
- Put the grapes in for five minutes.
- Rinse the fruit thoroughly under running water.
- Place the grapes on a cloth, let them drain and then dab them individually.
Tip
