Orchids can be attractively combined with plants such as bromeliads, dieffenbachia, gesneria, single leaf and other water-loving plants. In bouquets, orchids harmonize with roses, ferns, carnations and gerberas for a noble and exotic touch.
What factors should you consider when combining orchids?
Since orchids have certain requirements and their appearance does not match all other plants, you should consider the following factors when combining:
- Flower color: white, yellow, pink, hot pink, red or violet
- Flowering time: February to May
- Location requirements: partially shaded, high humidity, very permeable substrate (high proportion of pine bark or special orchid soil)
- Growth height: up to 120 cm
In our latitudes, orchids usually bloom in spring. If you want to display them with other flowering plants, you should pay attention to the flowering period of the orchids.
Since orchids do not like to be in direct sun, but prefer to be in partial shade, their companion plants should have similar location requirements.
Orchids grow higher rather than wide and remain narrow. Therefore, combine them with matching or rather contrasting plants.

You should give the orchids their own pot. There is also space for your combination partners. Since orchids absorb water through their leaves and therefore require high humidity, plants that evaporate a lot of water are suitable for them. Plants with large leaves are ideal for this. Like the orchid, the Dieffenbachia needs a bright location, but no direct sunlight. She also attaches importance to high humidity. Its beautifully designed foliage, which is often variegated in white depending on the variety, forms the missing counterpart to the orchid, which only has leaves in the lower area. Any orchid suits the Dieffenbachia.
Combine orchids with Gesneria
A fantastic flower display emerges from the orchid in the company of the Gesneria. Both plants produce spectacular and exotic flowers. The orange-red of the Gesneria flowers blends in most beautifully next to yellow and white orchids.
