With dried strawflowers you can bring summer into your home for many months. The creamy white, yellow, pink or red flowers can be dried wonderfully and still retain their intense color.

To dry straw flowers, cut them at the bud stage and hang them upside down in a shady, airy place. Dried straw flowers can be arranged into bouquets, tied into wreaths or glued to objects, among other things.

- From around mid-June you can cut the first straw flowers to dry.
- Arrange the flowers according to the different lengths of the stems.
- These are now tied into a bouquet: the longest stems go in the middle, and shorter and shorter flower stems are arranged all around. This allows the air to reach all flower heads.
- Hang on a string loop.
When should strawflowers be dried?
Cut strawflowersat the bud stage,just before they open. The buds should ideally be two to three centimeters in size. When dried, the flowers open completely and develop a bright color.
If you use the already opened flower heads, the center of the flower often turns an unsightly brown.
How are dried strawflowers used?
Straw flowers can bearranged into bouquets and in plugs. They also look goodtied into wreathsorglued on.
- For arrangements, cut a floral sponge to the desired size and shape. Then place the flowers close together in the sponge.
- Wreaths made from straw flowers and stalks of grain are popular as autumn decorations.
- Since the flower heads of the strawflower are very stable, you can attach them to a small box or a lantern with hot glue.
How are dried strawflowers treated?
Dried straw flowershardly need any care and still last for many years. However, you should protect the flowers from sunlight, otherwise the colors may fade. Humidity isn't good for them either. The bouquets are therefore not suitable as decoration for the bathroom.
Over time, dust collects on the flower heads. You can carefully remove this with the gentle jet of the hairdryer or gently shake out the flowers.
Tip
Store dried strawflowers
You can easily store dried straw flowers that you do not want to use immediately. Place the flower stems in a large paper bag, seal loosely and store in a dry place. Alternatively, you can wrap the flowers in wrapping paper.
