The flamingo flower, which comes from South America and is also botanically called anthurium or anthurium, is actually a fairly easy-care plant that tirelessly produces new flowers. But can the care effort be reduced by keeping the plant hydroponically?

Anthuriums are ideal for hydroponics because, as rainforest plants, they prefer a consistent water supply. When switching from soil to hydroponics, you will need an inner pot, planter, water level indicator, clay granules and a he althy plant.
Is the anthurium suitable for hydroponics?
The anthurium is at home in the warm and always moist rainforests of South America, where it grows and thrives in the light shade of the jungle giants. As a rainforest plant, the flamingo flower requires warmth, high humidity and a consistent supply of water. The latter can be easily ensured by switching to hydroponics, especially since the species is very suitable as a hydroponic plant. But be careful: If you want to change plants that have previously been grown in soil, choose specimens that are as young as possible - older ones are often very difficult to get used to.
How to convert the flamingo flower to hydroponics?
Of course, you can purchase various Anthurium species and varieties commercially as ready-made hydroponics. But existing plants can also be converted from soil to hydroculture. To do this, you first need the right equipment:
- Inner pot
- Planter
- Water level indicator
- Clay granules (e.g. expanded clay)
- a he althy and strong plant
Before putting it into the granules, you should carefully free the root ball of all adhering soil. You can also clean the roots under running water. You should also let the expanded clay balls soak up water before planting.

How to properly care for anthuriums in hydroponics?
Finally place the finished repotted anthuriums in a bright place that is protected from drafts and without direct sunlight. Care for them as follows:
- water about once a week in summer
- about every two weeks in winter
- Water level indicator tells you how much water you need to refill
- fertilize with special fertilizer about every two to three weeks
You should not use normal plant fertilizer for hydroponics as it contains too many nutrient s alts. Instead, choose a low-dose special preparation that is tailored to the needs of hydroponic plants. You can ensure the necessary high humidity by spraying the plant regularly using a flower sprayer.

Which clay granules should you use for anthuriums?
Expanded clay balls are available in different sizes: For small plants with fine roots, we recommend the smallest possible balls; for larger specimens with thicker roots, you should also choose larger balls.
