In contrast to pure deep-rooted plants, there is no dominant vertical taproot. Likewise, there are no long-reaching, flat lateral roots growing in the root area of an apricot, as you know from typical shallow-rooted plants. These other aspects influence root growth:

A look at tried-and-tested apricot rootstocks shows that deep-rooted plants are ahead. The tried and tested Wavit rootstock from a Wangenheim plum seedling is predominantly deep-rooted, medium-growing and does not form root rash. The deep-rooted Rubira rootstock, which does not form annoying root runners, is popular for a dry location. As a weak-growing, deep-rooted plant, the St. Julien rootstock is often used for a refined apricot in a pot.

Plant apricot in a wind-protected location
The right location for an apricot tree is sunny, warm and protected from the wind. In this location the fruit tree is protected from wind and late frost. The tree thrives best in fresh garden soil with a high humus content. Planting on a trellis in front of a house wall on the south or west side is recommended. Before planting the root ball, loosen the soil in the planting hole thoroughly with a rake.
