Whether annual summer asters or perennial autumn asters, the plants are classics in our gardens. Sowing early indoors is particularly worthwhile for summer asters. So that the asters bloom abundantly in summer, they must be pricked out.
How do I prick out asters?
Asters must becarefully pricked out so that they grow well in the new pot. Use only the strongest plants so that they can enjoy flowering in the same year.
Why do I have to prick out asters?
The young aster plants needfor he althy growth lots of space. Because asters germinate very differently, several seeds are placed in one planting hole. So that the plants do not interfere with each other after germination, they must be separated. It's best to only use the strongest plants.
What do I need to prick?
To transplant you needmost of all peace so that you do not damage the seedlings while working. Before work, prepare the necessary accessories:
- growing soil
- Pickerstab
- Plant pots
- Watering can.
If you don't have a stick, you can also use a popsicle stick or a small plastic spoon.
How do I prick out asters?
When pricking you mustExercise cautionOnce the seedlings have developed the first pair of leaves after the cotyledons, they must be pricked out. To do this, first fill the new pots with soil and water them well. Press a hole in the soil with the pricking rod. The seedlings are then levered out of the cultivation container with the pricking rod. Make sure all roots are preserved. Place the young plant in the hole in the new pot and press it down.
Tip
Put seedlings directly in the garden
Asters broke about 3 weeks from sowing to pricking out. If you don't sow the asters until April, they can be transplanted directly into the garden. Protect the young plants up to the ice saints with some foil on frosty days.
