If the indoor aralia, which is valued in our part of the world as a decorative, exotic house plant but can also be placed on the balcony or terrace in summer, leaves its leaves hanging, this can have various causes. We show which ones and what you can do about them.
Why does the aralia let its leaves droop?

Why do the leaves of the indoor aralia hang?
The indoor aralia, which delights plant lovers with its relatively low maintenance requirements, leaves its leaves drooping for the following reasons:
- Location is too dark: The indoor aralia likes it sunny (although full sun in the garden should also be avoided). A dark place in the apartment is not suitable.
- Watering behavior is wrong: Both too little and too much water can damage the plant. It must not be placed in a substrate that is too dry, but it cannot tolerate waterlogging or soil that is generally too wet either.
Can transplanting also be a reason for the drooping leaves?
If the indoor aralia has recently been repotted, this could also be areason whythat it leaves itsleaves hanging limply. Although repotting once a year into a larger container is definitely advisable, if the roots are severely damaged and the plant is exposed to stress, it will be very busy developing new roots. There is simply not enough strength for the leaves, so the aralia leaves them hanging.
What can I do about the hanging leaves?
In order to do something about the hanging leaves, you must first research thecauseand theneliminate itIf the plant is too dark, choose a brighter location (for example directly behind a large window). If incorrect watering is the cause, the plant needs to be watered either more often or less often. If waterlogging has even formed, it must be possible for it to drain away. In principle, the soil must always be evenly moist, but not wet, in order to prevent drooping leaves.
Does an indoor aralia with drooping leaves recover?
It is not always the case that the hanging leaves stand up again. However, thisis by no means a death sentence for the indoor aralia, which is non-toxic to humans but poisonous to pets. You can carefully cut off the hanging leaves. With the leaves that grow back, everything will be fine again if you take proper care of them.

Room aralia have a high nutrient requirement
Like many plants that grow indoors, Fatsia japonica, the botanical name for the indoor aralia, should be fertilized regularly. During the growth phase from March to October, fertilizing with liquid fertilizer (€6.00 on Amazon) every one to two weeks is recommended so that the plant is supplied with all the nutrients. In the other months, however, fertilization is avoided.
