If you want to grow (another) Physalis, you don't necessarily need seeds from specialist retailers. You can also get the seeds yourself from the fruits - whether from the supermarket or your own garden. We explain how it works.

Cut the physalis in half. Scrape out the seeds, perhaps with a toothpick, and rinse them in a sieve with lukewarm water to loosen the pulp. Drain the seeds and dry them spread out on a kitchen towel for several days.

How do I get the seeds of a physalis myself?
To obtain the seeds of a Physalis, follow these steps:
- Ripe Physalishalve.
- Carefully scrape the seeds out of the pericarp, e.g. with a toothpick.
- Place seeds in a narrow-mesh sieve andrinse with lukewarm water to remove the pulp adhering to them (€13.00 at Amazon).
- Seeds in the sievedrain.
- Spread the seeds on a kitchen towel andlet them dry for several days.
- Store completely dried seeds in a paper bag or small cardboard box until sowing, for exampleStore in a dark and cool place.
Note: An airtight storage container must beabsolutely clean and dry.
Tip
Improve germination through fermentation
Fermentation allows the pulp to be easily separated from seeds. In addition, the method helps the seeds germinate faster. This is how it works:
1. Place scraped out seeds in a jar.
2. Fill with lukewarm water.
3. Add a pinch of sugar.
4. Leave in a warm place for two to three days.5. Follow the instructions above from step 3.
