It's a shame if the plumeria, which is known as a garden and house plant, doesn't sprout - after all, it is so popular precisely because of its exotic flowers. We show why the plumeria doesn't sprout or only grows poorly.
What could be the reason if the plumeria doesn't sprout?

When does the plumeria usually sprout?
Usually the first fresh shoots of plumeria appearEnd of March This is a sign that winter dormancy is slowly coming to an end. The plant should now be placed in a place that is as bright as possible, but not outdoors yet. From now on, water regularly (about once or twice a week), but not too much. After about four weeks, i.e. at the end of April, the first flowers appear on the frangipani.
What should I do if the plumeria doesn't sprout?
The reaction to the lack of budding depends on the cause. If the plant, which is demanding in terms of care, has been watered too much in the winter, this can of course no longer be reversed and you shouldjust give the plant a little more time- it often sprouts later at higher temperatures still as usual. If stem rot is the cause (often in young plants), theaffected parts of the plant must be removed - only then can the plumeria be saved.
What conditions does the plumeria need to sprout?
The most important thing is that the frangipani overwinters under ideal conditions:
- If possiblebright location in the house or greenhouse (exception: varieties that shed their leaves in autumn can also be in a darker location).
- Ensuresufficiently high temperatures - the plumeria needs at least 15 °C.
- Reduce the amount of water when watering from late summer onwards. If the trunk becomes shriveled or soft, we recommend watering moderately, no more than once a week, but much less frequently.
If these tips are followed, the frangipani will sprout reliably.
Tip
Don't grab the scissors straight away
Pruning is not necessary if the frangipani does not sprout as desired. It is not one of the plants that tolerate cutting. Only if the trunk has become soft due to poor water supply or the plant is heavily infested with fungi is it urgently advisable or unavoidable to use (disinfected and sharp) scissors.
