When the temperatures drop in late summer, it is time to move the Kalanchoes that were cultivated outdoors in the summer indoors. Overwintering the attractive succulent is just as easy as caring for it, because it feels equally comfortable indoors and outdoors.
How should you care for Kalanchoes in winter?
In order to overwinter Kalanchoes successfully, they should be brought into the house in good time and placed in a bright place at room temperature. Water sparingly, do not fertilize and temperatures above 15 degrees ensure he althy wintering.
Bring Kalanchoe into the house in good time
The heat-loving thick-leaf plant does not cope well with temperatures below 15 degrees. The following procedure is recommended:
- As soon as it gets colder at night, put away the Kalanchoes.
- These can be overwintered in a bright place at room temperature.
- A cool room in which the temperatures do not fall below 15 degrees is advantageous for flower formation.
- Watering is done very sparingly and only when the bale feels dry.
- There is no fertilization at all.
Tip
Kalanchoes only bloom if they are not exposed to daylight or artificial light for more than eight hours for a few weeks. If this is not possible, for example because you are overwintering in a living room, place a cut cardboard box over the plant from around 6 p.m. to 8 a.m.
