Which gorges can you discover in Germany?

Discover breathtaking gorges in Germany, such as the Schwedenlochen in Saxon Switzerland, the Partnachklamm in Upper Bavaria, the Breitachklamm in the Allgäu, the Ruppertsklamm in Rhein-Lahn-Kreis and the Ravennaschlucht in the Upper Black Forest. Enjoy the fascinating nature, refreshing water and impressive rock formations.

Saxon Switzerland: Sweden holes

This gorge leads up 700 steps and two iron ladders through gorge-like rocky alleys. It got its name during the Thirty Years' War, when the farmers in the area took refuge here with their belongings. You should allow three to four hours for the hike, which requires some fitness. Access to the Schwedenlochen is free.

Upper Bavaria: Partnachklamm

This gorge impresses with its special magic. The bubbling Partnach has dug itself 80 meters deep into the stone here. The approximately 700 meter long path leads through tunnels and passages carved into the rock. Misty clouds hang mysteriously just above the water. It's dripping everywhere. In the few places where sunlight reaches the deep gorge, colorful rainbows form.

Allgäu: Breitachklamm

The Breitachklamm in Oberstdorf is the deepest rocky gorge in Central Europe and is also one of the most interesting geotopes in Bavaria. The water of the Breitach has dug almost a hundred meters into the rock and falls far down over rocky banks. Thanks to the well-secured paths, this gorge is also suitable for a family trip with children.

Rhein-Lahn district: Ruppertsklamm near Lahnstein

This 1.5 kilometer long gorge offers a fascinating hiking experience. You should be sure-footed, as you will have to repeatedly climb between high rocks using ropes attached to secure yourself. Entry to the Ruppertsklamm is free.

High Black Forest: Ravenna Gorge

The Ravenna Gorge is a narrow side valley of the Höllental. The Ravenna stream makes its way here with many small cascades and larger waterfalls. Tall fir trees provide pleasant shade, making this hike a pleasure even on very hot days. Admission is free.

Tip

It gets humid in the gorge even on hot summer days. As a result, the paths are often slippery. Be sure to wear suitable footwear on your gorge hike (€66.00 on Amazon). A rain jacket in your luggage doesn't hurt either.
