The common birch mushroom, also known as birch boletus, is apopular edible mushroom and is therefore edible. By the way, this also applies to all other birch mushrooms. However, you cannot eat the common birch mushroom raw, only cooked. It enhances rice, vegetable and meat dishes.
What do I have to consider when preparing the birch boletus?
Eat birch boletus onlywell cooked to avoid digestive problems. Here are a few instructions on how to prepare it:
- Cut away muddy areas or areas eaten by snails.
- Clean the fruit bodies with a mushroom brush or cloth. Important: Only clean dry and better not wash. The mushrooms absorb water like a sponge and therefore lose a lot of their aroma.

- Cook the mushrooms in the pan with butter or another heatable fat.
