Caring for turf is all about a balanced water supply right from the start. Don't worry any longer about how to properly water your finished lawn. We'll tell you how often and in what quantity you can do it right.
How much water does freshly laid turf need?
How should you water turf? Freshly laid turf requires 15-20 liters of water per square meter on the day of installation and in the following 1-2 weeks and should be watered in the evening or when the sky is cloudy. In summer, irrigation of 10-20 liters per square meter is necessary when the lawn loses its elasticity.
Pouring begins on the day of installation
Freshly laid turf is thirsty – very thirsty. Therefore, start watering the new turf on the day of installation. This is how it works:
- Water the finished lawn in the evening hours with 15 to 20 liters per square meter
- The sod should be wet to a depth of at least 7 centimeters
- Continue in this way every 1-2 days for the following 2 weeks
- How often the blasting takes place depends on the weather
If the sun is shining down on the day of installation, water the fresh turf rolls while you are working. To determine the level of moisture in the turf, insert a wrench into the sod. After pulling it out, this should be wet over a length of 7-10 centimeters.
How often should you water the turf in summer?
During the warm season, a lawn evaporates up to 20 liters of water per square meter every day. If the natural amount of rain does not immediately compensate for this loss, the greenery must be watered promptly. How to do it right:
- If the lawn leaves no longer stand up after being walked on, there is a need for watering
- Water turf with 10 to 20 liters of water per square meter
- For this amount, the lawn sprinkler runs for an average of 2 to 3 hours
- A measuring cup placed in the irrigation area should ultimately be filled with 10 to 20 milliliters
- Never water the lawn in direct sunlight
Water finished lawns in this quantity a maximum of 2 times per week. Instead, if you water in small amounts every day, the moisture will only penetrate the surface of the sod. The result is that the roots of the grass are too weak, so that they react even more sensitively to drought.
