Which location does the gentian prefer?
The optimal location for gentian is partially shaded to sunny, without long periods of direct sunlight, on loose, nutritious soil, neither too dry nor too moist. Depending on the gentian species, they prefer either calcareous or acidic soil.

Clusius gentian is the most commonly planted. He feels particularly comfortable in the rock garden. Koch's gentian prefers bright places under other shrubs or conifers.
Gentian in a pot should be placed on the terrace or balcony, protected from the wind. Direct sunlight for long periods of time must be avoided.
Gentian doesn't belong in the house. The plants die there after a short time.
Tips & Tricks
Gentian, the alpine flower, is hardy. In a harsh location it still needs to be protected over the winter. If you plant them in a convenient location, additional winter protection is unnecessary.
