The heather carnation (Dianthus deltoides), originally native to Europe and parts of Asia, is an attractive, dense mat-forming perennial. The bright red, bright pink or pure white flowers with toothed petals appear between June and September.

The ideal location for the heath carnation (Dianthus deltoides) is sunny, with permeable, moderately moist and nutrient-poor soil in a neutral to alkaline pH range. It is particularly suitable for dry stone walls, rock and gravel gardens.

A location that is as sunny as possible is essential for abundant flowering. Heather carnations also need permeable, moderately moist and not too nutrient-rich soil with a pH value in the neutral to alkaline range. Wetness is poorly tolerated, especially in winter. Heather carnations are particularly suitable for planting on dry stone walls as well as in rock and gravel gardens. It is best to plant the perennial, which is up to 20 centimeters high, in the foreground of a border. Expect about 16 plants per square meter.
Tip
The following varieties are particularly recommended: “Albus” flowers white, “Leuchtfunk” red with a darker ring in the center and “Vampir” scarlet. The “Roseus” variety blooms intensely pink.
