It's worth planting nettles or harvesting them in nature! With these plants you can destroy annoying weeds! How it works? Read more!
How to make nettle weed killer?
Stinging nettle weed killer can be made from a hot or cold water decoction or a slurry of chopped nettles and poured or sprayed directly onto weeds. The formic acid it contains burns weed leaves and also works against pests such as aphids.
Stinging nettle – usable as an eco-herbicide
Fighting weeds with weeds is not utopia. It works with stinging nettle, which is considered a weed by many gardeners. Take advantage of these 'weeds' by harvesting them and using them to destroy other weeds in the garden.
You no longer need expensive herbicides, which not only harm your wallet, but also the environment - other plants, groundwater, bees, etc. - when you rely on stinging nettles. Processed as manure or decoction, it becomes a biological herbicide.
The stinging hairs make it possible
Anyone who has ever been burned by the stinging hairs of the nettle will be careful in the future. They contain formic acid in their tips. This is the main component that is also intended to destroy weeds such as dandelions, groundweed, field bindweed and orach. Both the large nettle and the small nettle, which are widespread in this country, contain this 'poison'.
Make your own nettle weed killer
Both a hot or cold water broth as well as manure from stinging nettles work against weeds. First you should collect the nettles. You can find them, among other things, at the edges of forests, in meadows, in gardens and along roadsides. Collect approximately 1 kg of this herb by cutting it along with its stems (wear gloves!).
So it continues:
- Coarsely chop the cabbage
- fill a bucket with 10 liters of water (use boiling water for hot water brew)
- put the herb in and stir well
- Reaction time for a decoction: 12 to 24 hours
- Reaction time for a manure: 1 to 2 weeks
- when producing manure: if necessary + 500 g rock dust (€18.00 on Amazon) (neutralizes the stench)
Application against weeds in the garden
- pour directly over the weed leaves
- or put in a spray bottle and spray weed leaves
- does not need to be diluted
- Effect: Leaves burn due to the acid they contain
- Manure can be diluted up to 1:10 and is still effective
Tip
The nettle extract or the manure and the broth are also available as an organic pesticide, e.g. Can be used against aphids and whiteflies, for example.
