Copper rock pear grows like a multi-stemmed shrub and reaches a height of 3-4 meters. The wind- and frost-resistant shrub thrives best in the sun or in light shade on any garden floor, requires hardly any pruning and is valued for its beautiful foliage color.

Which location is suitable for the copper rock pear?

The ideal location for the copper rock pear is sunny to partially shaded, on normal garden soil. Heavy or wet soils should be improved and rocky ground loosened before planting. The plant is also suitable for rock gardens.

Copper rock pear normally grows as a shrub, but can also be trained into a standard tree through targeted pruning. The leaves of the copper rock pear are bronze to copper colored in spring, later green and turn yellow, orange or deep red in autumn. In April, shortly before the leaves emerge, the copper rock pear is covered with a cover of white flowers, from which small, spherical, blue-black fruits develop in autumn. The shrub owes its name “currant tree” to them.

Location requirements

  • sunny to partially shaded,
  • normal garden soil, also sandy-loamy or loamy-clay,
  • loose rocky ground before planting, improve heavy and wet soils.

Tip

Copper rock pears have shallow roots and are therefore also well suited for rock gardens.
