Many parts of North America are colonized by wild forms of asters, especially riparian areas. But where do asters feel comfortable in this country? Are sunny or shady, dry or moist locations better?
Which location do asters prefer?
Asters prefer sunny locations, but cannot tolerate full midday sun. Partial shade is tolerated. The soil should be humus, nutrient-rich, loose, sandy-loamy to loamy, permeable, and slightly moist. Compost enrichment is recommended. Do not plant asters too close together.
Spoiled by the autumn sun
Asters prefer to grow in sunny places in this country. There they grow faster and produce more flowers. But they should not be planted where the blazing midday sun shines. Their flowers wither more quickly there. The penumbra represents your tolerance range.
Lots of nutrients and moisture
The right substrate counts when sowing outdoors. It should be like this:
- humos
- rich in nutrients
- loose in texture
- sandy-loamy to loamy
- permeable
- fresh to moist environment
- medium difficulty
- gladly enriched with compost (€12.00 at Amazon)
Tip
Do not plant asters too close together in their location. Otherwise, the risk of mildew infestation increases!
