Common beeches are native deciduous trees that are often found in forests. Their requirements for the location are slightly higher than those of the hornbeams. How to find a favorable location for your European beech.
Which location does the European beech prefer?
The ideal location for a common beech is sunny to partially shaded, with permeable, nutrient-rich soil that is not too acidic. Waterlogging should be avoided. A particularly sunny location is recommended for copper beeches in order to achieve an intense red color of the leaves.
Where does the European beech feel comfortable?
- Sunny to partially shaded
- permeable soil
- no waterlogging
- nutritious soil
- Substrate not too acidic
Common beeches prefer sunny locations, but can also cope with partially shaded locations. You shouldn't plant a copper beech completely in the shade, as it will then remain small and stunted.
The trees need a lot of nutrients. Sandy or very calcareous soils are not suitable. Here the soil may need to be improved before planting.
It is important that the soil is slightly moist and, above all, well-drained. The common beech does not get waterlogged.
Tip
You should definitely choose a place that is as sunny as possible as a location for a copper beech tree. The red of the leaves only becomes really intense in a very bright place.
