The different types of indoor bamboo are becoming increasingly popular as they bring an exotic touch to the living room or winter garden. Various bamboo plants require regular pruning to keep them in shape.
How do I cut an indoor bamboo?
To cut an indoor bamboo, depending on the species, you should shorten the plant moderately in spring, cut long shoots to shape and remove parts that have turned yellow. Side shoots can be used as cuttings and rooted in water.
The Lucky Bamboo or Lucky Bamboo
Lucky Bamboo is often given as a good luck charm in a glass tube at Christmas or New Year's Eve. This is not a real bamboo, but a dragon tree. It does not require regular pruning, but can grow quite large if left unpruned. If there is not enough space, you should cut more often. As a rule, shortening the shoots is enough. The cutting measure can be used to get cuttings for new plants. The side shoots are suitable for this and can be planted in soil after rooting in a glass of water.
Sometimes the lucky bamboo turns yellow. This indicates that the trunks are rotting. If not pruned, the plant will die. It is better to cut a little deeper into the he althy trunk and thus prevent the rot germs from spreading further.
Cutting cuttings at Lucky Bamboo
If the bamboo plant has developed side shoots, these can be used as cuttings.

- Place them in a glass of water until roots form.
- Change the water regularly.
- If plenty of roots have developed, prepare a plant pot with nutrient-rich soil.

This “bamboo” plant is not real bamboo, but a sweet grass. Very little cutting needs to be done here as the grass grows into beautiful bushes on its own. Only the stalks that grow out of the mold can be cut off without any problems.
Real indoor bamboo
Pruning is often necessary here as the bamboo can get quite large. Spring pruning is suitable, in which the plant is moderately shortened.
