Variety names like 'Fragrance Festival' and 'Duftrausch' make it impressive: these are most likely intensely fragrant rose varieties. But not all variety names make it clear that it is a scented rose. Which varieties smell the best, the strongest, the most extraordinary?
Which scented rose varieties are particularly recommended?
The best scented roses include 'Lady Emma Hamilton', 'Laguna', 'Colette', 'Guirlande d' Amour', 'Roger Whittaker', 'Aspirin', and 'Comte de Chambord'. These varieties are known for their intense scent and exude aromas such as myrrh, tea rose and fruity notes.
Extremely strong-smelling varieties
If you plant the following scented roses or at least one of them, you won't be able to avoid sucking in the scent deeply through your nostrils as you pass by. In total, only 19 varieties are considered strongly scented.
These are recommended:
- ‘Lady Emma Hamilton’: rich yellow to orange
- ‘Laguna’: dark red-pink, nostalgic
- ‘Colette’: pink purple, nostalgic
- 'Guirlande d' Amour': rambler rose, white
- ‘Roger Whittaker’: pure white
- ‘Aspirin’: white
- ‘Comte de Chambord’: rose pink
Rather weakly scented varieties
Strongly scented roses can also be perceived as intrusive. Mildly scented varieties are more welcome for some people. These are among them and are considered extremely popular:
- ‘Famosa’: carmine red
- ‘Isarperle’: pastel white-yellow
Myrrh-scented varieties
A scent of myrrh, a scent that is reminiscent of the land of the Arabian Nights. There are scented roses that combine components of myrrh. This includes, for example, 'Strawberry Hill' with its pink flowers. 'Spirit of Freedom' also smells of myrrh.
Tea rose-scented varieties (old roses)
The scent of tea roses is exuberant, sweet and extremely pleasant. These varieties, for example, are among these scented air vents and are really recommended:
