Every year the tuber of a Gloriosa rothschildiana, popularly known as the crown of glory, has to be replanted. Since it is only allowed to enter the garden from mid-May after overwintering, it is placed in the pot in the meantime. In him she drives around the house.
How do you plant a Gloriosa rothschildiana?
To plant a Gloriosa rothschildiana, you should plant it in a pot with drainage and loose substrate at the end of February/March. From mid-May, if the weather is frost-free, it can be planted in the garden in a sunny, humus-rich location and provided with a climbing aid.
Advance the crown of glory
A crown of glory should end its overwintering at the end of February/mid-March so that it can move forward. Of course, it can also be planted directly into the garden bed at a later date. But then her most beautiful time, when she is in full bloom, is reduced to a minimum. Here's how to let them move around the house:
- Fill pot with drainage layer

The size achieved is not decisive when the Gloriosa rothschildiana is allowed outside. The decisive factor is the weather, which should no longer bring frost. That's why Gloriosa is only brought outside or planted permanently from mid-May onwards. If the weather is mild much earlier, the pot can be taken outside, but must be brought back in in good time if frost is announced.

Gloriosa rothschildiana is poisonous. The highest concentration of poison is in the tuber.
Planting outside
If you don't want the Gloriosa to continue growing in the pot, which is entirely possible, you will have to find a suitable place for it in the garden. Plant it where it will receive morning and afternoon sun. The soil should be permeable and humic.
Do not place the crown of glory lower than it was before. Then water them well.
Set up a trellis
Gloriosa grows very quickly because it only has one summer to shine above ground. However, this climbing plant forms very thin tendrils that cannot stand upright on their own. Immediately after planting, provide it with a suitable climbing aid.
The crown of fame also needs a stable climbing aid in the pot. This should ideally be firmly connected to the pot.
