The Rose Nostalgia doesn't just look pretty in the bed or on the side of the path. If you don't have your own garden, you can also plant them in a pot, for example as a standard plant. But what should you pay attention to when cultivating in containers?
How do you care for the Rose Nostalgia in the pot?
The Rose Nostalgia thrives well in a pot if it has a sunny to partially shaded location, a terracotta pot 40-60 cm deep and a drainage layer. What is important is regular watering, long-term or liquid fertilizer and possible repotting or root cutting every 2 years.
Suitable locations for the container rose
This pot rose is equally suitable for balconies, terraces and house entrances. It values a sunny to partially shaded location. But be careful: She doesn't feel at all comfortable in the blazing midday sun on a sheltered balcony in summer. It gets too hot for her there. Airy locations are therefore important - ideally in eastern or western locations.
Suitable containers and planting
The following aspects should be given particular attention when choosing a container and planting:
- Bucket depth: 40 to 60 cm
- ideal: cylindrical shape
- Plastic pots are not suitable (they heat up quickly and offer no protection against frost)
- better: terracotta pots
- a drainage layer at the bottom, e.g. B. create from pottery shards
- Roots should not be bent when planting
- fill with rose soil
Care for this container rose: watering, fertilizing, repotting
This potted rose needs plenty of care. In contrast to outdoor roses, it needs to be watered regularly. This is important not only in summer, but also at all other times of the year. The earth should never dry out. It is poured directly onto the soil without wetting the leaves.
A special long-term fertilizer for roses (€11.00 on Amazon) is suitable as a fertilizer. This is often enough for half a year. If necessary, additional fertilization can be carried out. In addition, fertilization with potassium is recommended towards the end of July. As an alternative to long-term fertilizer, you can use a liquid fertilizer. This should be added to the irrigation water once every week.
After about 2 years, the pot is often already rooted. Then there is a repotting campaign. Don't want to provide a larger bucket? Then take the rose out of the old bucket, shorten the roots by about 10 cm and put it back in the old bucket.
Tip
When overwintering the Rose Nostalgia, it is important to keep it in a cool but frost-free place! The shoots of the rose are only cut down after the winter.
