How do you plant scented roses correctly?

To plant scented roses correctly, choose a sunny location, deep and nutrient-rich substrate and maintain planting distances equal to half the growth width. Avoid neighborhood odor disturbances for the best scent development.

What location do scented roses need?

Scented roses are basically not planted in any other location than so-called shrub and noble roses. In order to develop the best scent, a sunny location is the first choice. In partial shade the flowers smell less intense.

Furthermore, if possible, a location in an airy but covered location is preferable. Otherwise, rainwater would dull the scent somewhat and damage the appearance of the flowers. For example, open locations on house walls and under roof eaves are well suited.

Where is the best place to plant scented roses?

Roses that give off a strong scent should be planted where the scent can be deeply inhaled. Seating areas such as terraces are well suited for this. Planting locations on the side of the path, at the entrance to the house or in the foreground of the perennial bed are also advantageous.

What substrate do scented roses need?

Since fragrant roses develop a deep root system, they are less suitable for pot cultivation. They need a deep surface of at least 50 cm. The earth should have the following characteristics:

  • nutrient-rich
  • permeable
  • loamy or clayey
  • slightly sandy
  • slightly acidic to neutral
  • humos

What planting distances should be maintained?

Depending on which variety you bought, you should keep a certain distance between individual roses, other plants and objects when planting. For example, if the scented rose is 80 cm wide, a planting distance of at least 40 cm should be maintained. The following applies: half the growth width.

Can you propagate scented roses?

Of course you can also propagate scented roses! But this is only permitted if these are not protected varieties. You can recognize such copies when you buy them by a ®. You can easily propagate non-protected varieties using cuttings. Cut the cuttings in summer and plant them directly in a bed that you can cover such as: B. Cold frame (€79.00 at Amazon).

Tip

Scented roses, with their unique scent, work best when they stand alone and are not drowned out by other fragrant plants in the neighborhood.
