Why does the date palm get brown leaves and what can you do about it?
The date palm can develop brown leaves due to lack of light, direct sunlight, wetness, dryness, lack or excess of nutrients. Regular watering when the substrate has dried and occasional spraying of the leaves can help. Brown leaves can be removed once they are completely dry.

- Lack of light
- too strong sunlight
- too much wetness
- too dry
- too many nutrients
- too few nutrients
Even though the date palm generally tolerates sun well, direct sunlight can cause brown leaves. This is especially true if the palm tree is behind a glass window that receives a lot of midday sun.
Water the date palm regularly, but only when the substrate has dried at the top. Occasional misting of the leaves will prevent browning if the humidity in the room is too low.
Tip
Even if date palms are generally not cut, you can of course remove brown leaves. But wait until the brown fronds are completely dry before cutting. Leave a stub of about four centimeters on the trunk.
