How to make cacti bloom?

To get cacti to bloom successfully, they should be kept cool (5-12 degrees Celsius) and bright over the winter from November to February, watered sparingly and not fertilized. In March, slowly get the cacti used to the sun and return the watering and fertilizing intervals to normal.

Cool, dry wintering sets the course

In their Central and South American distribution areas, cacti are adapted to rainy, hot summers and dry, cool winters. By simulating the natural conditions, you support the winter flower induction. This is how it works:

  • From September, gradually water less and no longer fertilize
  • From November to February, spend in a bright location with 5 to 12 degrees Celsius
  • Do not water or only water a little every 4 to 6 weeks

At the beginning of March, spray the overwintered cacti with soft, room temperature water. A week later, resume normal watering and fertilizing intervals. First place the plants in a semi-shady place for 10 days so that they can get used to the sun again.
