Older Araucaria trees that have been growing in the garden for several years survive cold winters quite well. Younger trees, on the other hand, should be protected from frost. Monkey trees grown in pots must always be kept frost-free over the winter.
How can you overwinter an Araucaria successfully?
To overwinter an Araucaria outdoors, place a thick blanket of mulch around the tree and cover it with jute (€12.00 on Amazon), brushwood or winter fleece. For potted plants, place them in a bright, frost-free place with temperatures above ten degrees.

In addition to the cold, the dryness of frozen ground is particularly difficult for the monkey tree. Young trees in particular need good winter protection. Their roots are not yet sufficiently mature to survive a harsh winter.
Therefore, place a thick layer of mulch made of straw, leaves, grass clippings or similar materials around the tree.

Tip
If you want to grow cuttings from seeds, only buy seeds that come from trees growing in Germany. These are more hardy and cope better with frost.
