How to properly overwinter a silk silk tree
The florett silk tree needs a place in winter where it is very bright and not too cool. Under no circumstances should temperatures fall below twelve degrees. It shouldn't get warmer than 18 degrees. However, the florett silk tree has no place in the heated living room in winter. The humidity there is too low.
Suitable rooms are, for example:
- slightly heated winter gardens
- not too cool reception rooms
- Hallway window
- warmed greenhouses
If the florett silk tree is too dark, it loses its flowers, which hang on the branches until the first winter months. If you cannot provide a location with enough light, install plant lamps (€89.00 on Amazon).
Caring for the florett silk tree in winter
Start reducing watering amounts as soon as the flowers appear in autumn. During the winter, water only sparingly. Fertilization is also no longer carried out in winter.
Floret silk tree slowly getting used to warmer temperatures
When you take the silk silk tree out of its winter quarters, slowly get used to the warmer temperatures. At first, only place it in direct sunlight for a few hours at a time. When it's warm enough outside, it can be as sunny as possible again. It can even tolerate direct midday sun without any problems if you water it sufficiently in summer.
Tip
A special feature of the florett silk tree is that it only develops its eye-catching flowers in autumn. They grow up to 15 centimeters long and are colored pink, salmon or wine red. You should wear gloves when caring for the exotic species because there are many spines on the trunk.
