Most of the time you don't even need to go to the hardware store to be able to build a small indoor greenhouse yourself using simple materials from the leftover bin. Even if you don't get huge yields, a few culinary herbs do fall off and it's fun when everything sprouts green.
How can you build your own indoor greenhouse?
You can easily build an indoor greenhouse yourself by using small fruit boxes (20×30 cm), lining them with a sturdy plastic film and scratching small holes in the film for air and moisture regulation. The ideal location is at temperatures between 15-20°C and plenty of daylight.
Parents who try to make gardening a little more palatable for their children do it, people who have little or no greenery around their city apartment also do it by building their own indoor greenhouse, usually succeeds within a few minutes The materials and tools for building it yourself are probably already lying around somewhere in the hobby cellar, so the effort required to set it up is limited, like our boxes in the picture, the ones originally with tangerines were filled.
Simple indoor greenhouse made from fruit crates
Surely there is also more decorative room furniture that can be bought ready-made. But just a little color works wonders here. The smallmini climbs with their size of 20 x 30 cm fit easily on the windowsill and can be excellently packaged after sowing using simple shrink film (€8.00 on Amazon). When the seedlings begin to sprout after a few days, the mini greenhouse no longer needs to be covered. If it can be a size larger, the fruit boxes for 12 kg content, which you should ask a friendly market dealer for, are almost ideal dimensions. A more stable plastic film is suitable for lining the walls, in which a few small holes are scratched to improve the air and moisture regulation of the planting soil.
Location of the green oasis in the living area
The room in which the indoor greenhouse will be housed should not be overheated. For most plantstemperatures between 15 and 20 °C with as much daylight as possible are sufficient. If the sun is too bright, it is best to turn the mini house 180 degrees after a few hours. Parsley and many other culinary herbs are particularly suitable for cultivation, although if they are growing vigorously they should be regularly cut off to just above the ground. The indoor greenhouse that you can build yourself can also be used excellently for growing young plants, sowing of which can begin at the end of winter.
Tip
Excessive sunlight can be particularly damaging to newly sprouted seedlings. The annoying UV radiation can be reduced to a tolerable level by lowering the window blind.
