The ground under the arbor has settled and the house is now crooked. You may also want to redesign the garden and move the tool shed to a different location. There are many reasons why the garden house as a whole needs to be raised. With a little preparation and a few helping hands, this can usually be done without any problems.
How can I raise a garden shed?
To raise a garden house, you need wooden wedges, sturdy beams and boards, jacks and an iron bar. Raise with wedges, place a jack underneath and insert wooden beams to reach the desired height. Alternatively, a crane can be rented.
The preparatory work
- Empty the garden house completely.
- Remove any anchors to the foundation or soil.
- Check whether the garden house is stable enough to be lifted as a whole.
Materials needed
- Wooden wedges
- Wooden beams with an edge length of about ten centimeters
- stable wooden boards
- an iron rod
- multiple jacks, depending on the size of the house
Since this feat of strength cannot be managed by one person, ask neighbors and friends for help.
Procedure
First lift the house with the wooden wedges until you can place the jack stands underneath. Now lever up the arbor so that you can push sturdy wooden beams underneath.
If the garden house is stable on these, you can put the jack on and raise the house to the required height. Always place boards and beams underneath.
It's easier with a crane
If the garden house is too large to lift with hydraulic jacks, you can rent a mobile crane from a regional transport company. However, keep in mind that this requires a suitable parking space and sufficient space.
What to do if the house cannot be lifted?
Then unfortunately the only option is to dismantle it. You don't have to dismantle the garden house into all its individual parts. It is usually possible to dismantle the roof as a whole and the side walls in large pieces, so that the subsequent reassembly can be completed quite quickly.
Tip
The trolley jack required for this campaign (€149.00 on Amazon) can be rented inexpensively from many hardware stores. Some models have a ground clearance of ten centimeters. This means that relatively small wedges are enough to get the devices under the house.
