If the old arbor has become weathered and unsightly, the only option is to finally demolish it. As a rule, you can easily dismantle and dispose of the small house yourself. However, there are a few points to consider, which we would like to go into in more detail in our article.
How can I demolish a garden shed myself?
To demolish a garden house yourself, first remove the roof covering and the roof, then the walls and the floor plate. Sort the materials for disposal: glass, asph alt shingles, roofing felt, various classes of wood and metals. Take these to the recycling center or scrap dealer.
The preparations
- It is extremely useful if you still have the old assembly instructions to hand. This shows how the house was built. The dismantling then simply takes place in the reverse order.
- Get a suitable vehicle or trailer, as demolition produces a lot of bulky waste. Ask the municipality which recycling center in the area accepts the pre-sorted building materials.
- Alternatively, you can have a construction container delivered to you.
- Ask friends for help. Even if the hut seems unstable, rusty nails and heavy parts can make this work an effort.
The Demolition
First remove the roofing and the roof. The walls and, if they are no longer used, the floor slab are then dismantled.
Disposal
Pre-sort all parts of the garden house:
The recycling center takes glass, bitumen shingles or roofing felt. This also applies to wood, which must be separated again:
- Class A1: Natural and exclusively mechanically pretreated wood.
- Class A2: Lacquered, painted or glued wood.
- Class A3: Coated wood.
- Class A4: Wood treated with wood preservatives.
Metal such as nails, screws or gutters can often be sold to a regional scrap dealer for cold hard cash. If this is not the case, the recycling center is also responsible.
Tip
Demolition by a company is much less complicated but also more expensive. If you choose this route, be sure to get estimates from different companies. The prices can differ by several hundred euros, which you will certainly prefer to invest in the new arbor.
