Calathea care is quite complex. She doesn't forgive even small care mistakes. Watering in particular can be a problem. This is how you water a basket marante correctly.
How do I water a calathea correctly?
To water a Calathea properly, always keep the root ball slightly moist, avoid waterlogging, use low-lime and slightly warmed water, spray leaves regularly and place the plant in partial shade.
Water Calathea correctly – avoid leaf discoloration
If you don't water a Calathea properly, it will show up almost immediately. The plant reacts to too much or too little moisture with leaves changing color or curling.
When watering, the following points are particularly important:
- Avoid waterlogging
- Never let bales dry out
- use low-lime water
- Water slightly warmed
- Spray leaves regularly
Always water so that the root ball is always slightly moist. However, waterlogging must not occur. Increase the humidity to prevent diseases or pest infestations from developing.
Tip
The basket marant is at home in the rainforest, where it hardly gets any direct sunlight. If it is too sunny, it will have brown leaves. Find a location in partial shade.
