The Bubikopf, sometimes also called Bubikopfchen, is a popular houseplant that is very easy to care for and is also not poisonous. It is therefore the ideal plant for beginners. What do you have to consider when caring for your bobbed hair?
How do I care for a bob?
To properly care for a bobhead, water it when the substrate on top has dried, but avoid waterlogging. Fertilize every two weeks from April to September. In winter, reduce watering and fertilizing. Place the plant in a bright location and cut back long or bald shoots if necessary.

The bobbed hair must never dry out completely, but it doesn't like waterlogging either. Always water when the surface of the substrate has dried. Do not leave water in the saucer or planter.

When should you fertilize the Bubikopfchen?
Fertilize the Bubikopf from April to September with liquid fertilizer (€6.00 on Amazon) or slow-release fertilizer. It is enough if you give fertilizer every two weeks.
Make sure that the fertilizer never gets directly onto the leaves.
When will the Bubikopf be repotted?
If the current pot is too small, repot the Bubikopf in a larger container. Bowls are particularly suitable because they are not that deep. But they must have a drainage hole so that the irrigation water can drain away.
When repotting, you can immediately divide the root ball to propagate the plant.
Can you cut the bob?
The bob hairstyle is very easy to cut. You can cut it back at any time if the shoots have become too long.
Is the bobbed head susceptible to diseases and pests?
Diseases only occur if you water the bobbed hair too well or too little. Then the roots rot.
In an unfavorable location or when the humidity is too low, infestation by aphids and spider mites can occur. The pests should be combated immediately.
How is the bob haircut cared for in winter?
The Bubikopf is not hardy. It can tolerate temperatures around freezing for very short periods of time. In winter you should put it in a bright place at 12 to 18 degrees. Increase humidity by placing water bowls.
In winter, do not fertilize the bobhead and water it less.
Why do the shoots in the middle turn yellow?
Older plants grow so densely that the shoots in the middle no longer get enough light. Cut them out to rejuvenate the bob.
Why do the side shoots of the Bubikopfchen go bald?
If the shoots become very long and have few leaves, it is probably because the bobhead is too dark. Provide more brightness.
Tip
The Bubikopf (Soleirolia), in contrast to the Blue Bubikopf (Isotoma fluviatilis), is a houseplant. Despite having the same name, the two plants belong to completely different families.
