Leisure gardeners had to wait a long time for storm-proof flower box holders for the windowsill. Resourceful designers have taken on this problem. The result is a bracket that you can attach without drilling. These assembly instructions explain how it works using the example of the Vario-fix flower box holder for window sills.
How do I install a storm-proof flower box bracket?
To attach a storm-proof flower box holder, attach the clamping plate to the holder, place the clamping bracket on the window sill and slide the clamping plate into the water draining groove. Then tighten the locking screw and align the PVC hex screw against the wall.
Material and tools
The scope of delivery includes the material you need to assemble the bracket, apart from the flower box:
- Stainless steel clamp, 3 mm thick and 30 mm wide
- Clamping plate
- Setting screws
- PVC hex screws to support the bracket on the house wall
The tools required for assembly are limited to an open-end wrench SW 10.
Important requirements
Only attach the balcony box bracket if the window sill is firmly connected to the masonry or window. A protrusion of 30 to 70 mm from the facade is also one of the requirements. Furthermore, a 5 mm deep water drip groove is required.
Instructions for assembly
A flower box holder is always installed in pairs. The following instructions explain step by step how to assemble and attach a bracket. How to do it right:
- Screw the clamping plate onto the bracket using the locking screw
- Tighten the PVC hexagon screw on the clamping plate until it holds
After this preparatory work, go to the windowsill. Here you place the clamp on the window sill. Slide the clamping plate up along the slot in the holder into the water draining groove. Then tighten the locking screw with the SW 10 jaw wrench. Now turn the PVC hexagon screw against the house wall until there is support between the bracket and the wall. Under no circumstances should the screw be bent. To check the strength, please shake it.
The size of the flower box defines the distance between the two holding brackets. This is approximately 10 cm from the outer edge to the center.
If it is a window sill made of aluminum or sheet metal, the installation is similar. The only difference is a 180 degree rotation of the clamping plate to thread it behind the front leg of your windowsill. Then push the clamping plate up as far as it will go and tighten the locking screw.
Tip
In order to attach a flower box to a balcony railing, specialist retailers offer ready-assembled brackets. Here, assembly is limited to screwing and adjusting using wing screws. High-quality products provide secure support for balcony boxes with plants and substrate weighing up to 50 kilograms.
