If you cut down a large tree in your garden, you will quickly have a problem with its disposal. Tree trunks and stumps as well as branches and roots with a diameter of more than 15 centimeters may not be collected with green waste or taken to the local recycling center. So what options do you have to legally get rid of the wood?
How can tree trunks be disposed of legally?
You can dispose of tree trunks by using them as firewood, using them for landscaping, visiting a composting plant or hiring a container service. Alternatively, you can give the wood away to neighbors, friends or acquaintances.
For fireplace owners: chop up and use as firewood
The obvious solution is to chop up the tree and roots (although you can leave them and the stump in the ground) and use them as firewood in the fireplace. Depending on the size and move of the tree, this obviously means a lot of strenuous work, but it can be made easier with the right equipment. You can first roughly chop the wood with a chainsaw (€109.00 on Amazon) and a circular saw, then chop it into logs with an ax. Even if you don't have a fireplace, every garden has a small fireplace for a campfire, for example in a fire bowl or fire basket.
Instead of throwing away: use the tree trunk for garden design
The tree trunk and stump can also be used wonderfully for further garden design and for larger garden projects. You can hollow out the stump that remains in the ground and use it as a planter, place planters on it, let it grow over with climbing plants, turn it into a table - there are lots of great ideas and suggestions here. The tree trunk, in turn, is suitable for supporting a terrace roof, jacked up as a rustic bench or sawn into pieces as a rustic piece of furniture.
Disposing of tree trunks: composting plant, container service
If you still want or need to get rid of the wood: Look for a composting plant near you. They are usually happy to accept larger pieces of wood as long as you can deliver them yourself. If this is not possible, ask a container service (keyword: waste disposal).
Tip
Ask neighbors, friends, relatives and acquaintances: Maybe there is someone here who would be happy about wood for heating or working with? You can also post a notice on the local supermarket bulletin board or advertise in the classifieds.
