Because of the beauty of its velvety flower color, the Baccara rose, which is also a noble rose, is often referred to as the “Queen of Roses”. The rose should not be missing from any bridal bouquet, as the soft, dark red represents love and passion. The sensitive shrub can also be cultivated in the home garden. You lay the foundation for he althy growth when you plant.
How do I plant Baccara roses correctly?
To plant Baccara roses successfully, choose a sunny, airy location, humus-nutrient-rich, deep and well-drained soil and plant them at least 1.2 meters apart. The best planting time is between the beginning of October and the end of November.
Which location is ideal for Baccara roses?
Like all roses, Baccara roses prefer a sunny and airy location. But even though this rose loves the sun, it doesn't tolerate a hot, protected place - for example in front of a bright south-facing wall - well. It can be a bit windy, so after a downpour the leaves dry faster and fungal infections are less common.
What should the soil be like for Baccara roses?
Baccara roses feel most comfortable in humus-rich, deep and well-drained soil. Sandy loam or loamy sandy soils that are easy to cultivate are ideal. Sandy soils can be easily improved with rock dust (€18.00 on Amazon), while heavy soils can be loosened up with sand or gravel. When planting roses, do not add compost!
When is the best time to plant Baccara roses?
It is best to plant roses between the beginning of October and the end of November, provided there is no frost yet.
Planting baccara roses correctly – this is how it works
Planting Baccara roses is best done according to this scheme:
- Naked-root roses first receive a planting cut.
- Cut roots and shoots back by a third.
- Container roses are only cut after planting.
- Put the rootstock in a bucket of water for an hour.
- Dig a planting hole.
- This should be twice as large and deep as the root ball.
- Mix the excavation with potting soil.
- Now plant the Baccara Rose: The grafting point is five centimeters below the surface of the soil.
- Water the rose thoroughly.
- Now pile them up with 15 to 20 centimeters of potting soil.
What planting distance do Baccara roses need?
Roses, and the Baccara rose is no exception, are considered to be weak in competition and cannot do anything with neighboring plants that are planted too closely: On the contrary, they usually start to get sick quickly. Therefore, keep a distance of at least 1.2 meters, better yet up to two meters, and never place the shrub under a tree.
Tip
Never plant Baccara and other roses in a location where roses have already grown. The phenomenon of soil fatigue often (not always) occurs, in which the newly planted rose withers and dies. If roses are still to be planted in this location, the soil must first be replaced. Alternatively, you can plant other plants for around five to six years and wait until the soil has recovered.
