Anubias come from humid areas of West Africa and are cultivated as aquarium plants. They can be planted in sand. But an Anubia is particularly decorative when it sits on a piece of root in water.

How do I attach Anubias to a root in the aquarium?

Anubias can be attached to roots to create a natural and decorative aquarium. Attach the Anubia with aquarium plant glue, strong twine or fishing line and remove the attachment as soon as the plant forms new adhesive roots.

Why root?

There are numerous accessories available for aquariums. For example, woody roots. They are a piece of nature, even if they are no longer living. Accordingly, they appear natural and fit well into the living water world. They offer an interesting, often bizarre appearance. Each piece is also unique.

In addition to stones, these roots are also ideal for Anubias. They live on them as so-called riders. The brown tones of the root and the green of the Anubia form a beautiful contrast.

Buy root

If you want to be on the safe side, buy the root in a special aquarium supply shop. The roots offered there are suitable for an aquarium filled with animals and plants. The roots of trees usually come from swamp areas.

It is theoretically possible to look for suitable roots here in nature. But this task should not be underestimated. The dead wood must then be watered. In addition, it must not rot prematurely in the water, release unwanted substances or cause discoloration.

Tip

Even if Anubias only grow slowly, you should make sure in advance that the size of the root matches the maximum possible size of your Anubia plant.

Attach Anubia

At the beginning, Anubia cannot hold on to the root. That's why she has to be tied to it. This can be done using the following means:

  • special aquarium plant glue
  • solid yarn
  • fishing line

Tip

Before you tie up the Anubia plant, you should test it and its roots in the aquarium in order to determine the best position for the plant.

Remove attachment

After a certain time, the Anubia will form new roots with which it clings to the root. This gives it a stable hold and no longer requires fastening. Fastening cords may therefore be removed again so as not to disturb the harmonious picture.

Buy Anubia with root

If you want to save yourself the work of tying, you can buy ready-made arrangements. This means that the Anubia is delivered with a root to which it is already firmly connected.
