A golden privet is also happy when it doesn't have to form a hedge close together with other specimens. If it is allowed to stretch out its branches in all directions, it will reward you with a beautifully shaped crown. As a solitaire it is even suitable for the bucket.
How can you cultivate a golden privet as a solitaire?
A solitary golden privet requires enough space to develop (2-3 m high, up to 2 m wide), a sunny location, regular pruning and care. It is also suitable as a standard or container plant.
Possible locations
An existence as a solitaire only makes sense if the gold privet is given enough space to develop. If part of the crown has to be removed after years for reasons of space, it doesn't look nice. Therefore, remember the following dimensions in good time before planting:
- a height of 2-3 m is possible
- goes up to 2 m wide
- annual growth is between 30 and 60 cm
A sunny location also guarantees that the golden privet retains its beautiful color or pattern and does not turn green. The golden privet can also be planted in a large container.
Educational Cut
A solitary gold privet requires a stable branch structure. In order for it to develop accordingly, you must train the tree by cutting it when it is young.
- educate with 7 – 12 shoots
- cut small privet back to 15 cm when planting

- remove weak shoots completely

Encourage branching
Not only a hedge, but also a solitary plant can benefit from rich branching. That's why a golden privet standing in its own position is regularly cut back from a height of 50 cm. Two cuts a year are ideal, at the end of February and in June after flowering. Not only are he althy shoots cut back, but dead, damaged and annoyingly growing branches are also removed.

Care
A solitary golden privet is cared for no differently than a privet hedge. It is fertilized at least once a year in spring with an organic slow-release fertilizer. Regular fertilizer applications during the growing season are also possible. A container specimen even has to be fertilized with a liquid fertilizer in several stages.
The golden privet likes it moderately moist, but not too wet. Here you have to water as needed.

Since the golden privet rarely produces a straight trunk nor can it be trained to one by tying it, the desired shape is achieved through refinement.
