Rolled leaves ruin the appearance of any plant. The lushly growing immortality herb shouldn't have any either. But for him, curled leaves are not just a visual problem. If the fresh greens are brewed as tea, it must be clear that the plant is he althy. What do the leaf changes really mean?
Why do Jiaogulan leaves curl up?
If Jiaogulan leaves curl up, it may be due to a location that is too sunny, a dry root ball, pest infestation or the approach of autumn. To eliminate the cause, you should check the location and care, as well as control pests and water adequately.
Possible causes
If the leaves of the Jiaogulan plant curl, you should check both its location and care. A close look at the leaves also rules out pest infestation. Here is an overview of the four most common causes:
- too sunny location
- dry root ball
- Pests
- approaching autumn
Sunny place is taboo
Jiaogulan is a “jungle plant” in Asia that grows in the shade of even larger plants. In this country, too, it is only allowed to have a partially shaded spot that is only accessible to the sun in the morning and evening.
West and east windows work well in the house. They do not offer direct sun but enough brightness. If there is only one space available on the south window, move the plant slightly away. Because too much sun is the main cause of curled leaves on this plant.
Avoid dry root balls
When moisture evaporates through the leaves without roots being able to absorb new water, the leaves curl up. This risk exists during long periods of drought and particularly affects plants growing in containers.
Did you water your plants too little? Do this quickly, but without drowning them in water!
Check for pest infestation
Check the leaves for other changes such as: B. Stains. Take a closer look at the undersides of the leaves. For example, Jiaogulan may be infested with lice. Their fight should be addressed immediately.
Time for the autumnal retreat
While Jiaogulan remains leafy indoors when it is bright, only the rhizome overwinters outside. In autumn it can happen that curled leaves simply mark the beginning of the upcoming wilting phase.
Tip
Quickly cut off the healed shoots so that you can dry the leaves for winter tea.
No return to original state
Once the leaves are curled, they do not recover, regardless of the cause. Therefore, react immediately when you notice the first egg-rolled specimens so that there are not more and more of them. You can cut off and dispose of leaves that are already rolled up.
