How fast does Washingtonia robusta grow per year?
The annual growth of a Washingtonia robusta varies, but in the first year it can reach up to 70 cm, with 2-3 fanned fronds sprouting. In the following years, new growth increases annually, with up to 20 new palm fronds possible.
Fast growing type of palm tree
Compared to other cultivated palms, Washingtonia robusta is considered to grow quickly. Although these are encouraging prospects, no exact, general and binding statement can be made regarding annual growth.
In this country, the palm tree can never grow under the ideal conditions of its native Mexico. Climatically different regions as well as annual weather fluctuations have a decisive say. Not to forget: the harsh winter!

Rapid growth cannot occur without a he althy root system. The Washingtonia likes to extend its roots deeper, the width of the pot is of secondary importance. If you repot a young palm tree into new substrate every spring, you should also make sure that the new pot is at least a third larger than the old one.
Further care for more growth
Abundant water during the growing season is a prerequisite for high annual growth. Nutrients must also be available from April to September, with a commercially available NPK green fertilizer (€16.00 on Amazon) being sufficient. But if you deviate from the manufacturer's recommendations to accelerate growth with lots of fertilizer, you will harvest yellow leaves.
